Helpful Tech Tools for Students

Required

Headphonesevery AIS student in grades 6-12 is required to have a set of headphones at school on a daily basis. We have added these as a requirement for school both because students are using more and more audio for their schoolwork and because of health reasons. ES students are encouraged to bring their own headphones to school.

Recommended

Pen Drivealso known as a disc-on-key or flash drive, we strongly recommend that every student in grades 4-12 come to school with a pen drive to transfer files easily from one computer to another, both amongst computers in school as well as between school and home. We suggest a pen drive with a minimum of 256K of space, however drives that hold 1G are more common. These were included in the middle school supply list.

Personal computing deviceas technology gets more integrated, laptops and other personal computing devices are becoming a more common learning tool whose use will only increase in the future. This is especially true for middle and high school students. As a result, we recommend that HS students who own laptops bring them to school on a daily basis. Check with your teachers for more details on laptop use in their classes.

Recommended for Special Interests

Card reader – if your child is interested in working with images and/or he/she is in a digital photography or media class, a card reader might be useful. Card readers for multiple types of cards are the most helpful for those who utilize various types of cameras for their work..

Microphone – if your child is "into" producing audio and video files or if he/she is involved in radio production here at school, a microphone may be a good purchase.
